The International Peace Alliance will host the IPA International Conference “Cultural Heritage and Peace: Building on 70 years of the Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict”, from 12pm – 3pm at the King Edward Hotel in Toronto, Canada, on 28 Sept 2024, with opening remarks by His Royal Highness King Nana Yaw Osam I.

In 2024, we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the adoption of UNESCO’s Hague Convention for the Protection of Cultural Property in the Event of Armed Conflict, the first international legal framework entirely dedicated to the protection of movable and immovable heritage.

The 1954 Hague Convention aims to protect cultural property, such as monuments of architecture, art or history, archaeological sites, works of art, manuscripts, books and other objects of artistic, historical or archaeological interest, as well as scientific collections of any kind regardless of their origin or ownership.

The IPA will host this conference under the High Patronage of His Royal Highness King Nana Yaw Osam l with the theme focus divided into three zones of discussion: (1) UNESCO Projects (2) Good Practices (3) Tech & Act.

The UNESCO zone presents relevant projects, tools and collaborative initiatives undertaken by the Organization, as well as raising awareness about ratification processes. The Good practices zone is dedicated to preparedness, emergency response, and recovery, whereas the Tech & Act: Solutions for the future zone showcases new technology-based approaches and stories of resilience.
